Hello to anyone reading today! One of the biggest challenges I have is to stay in the moment and not think about yesterday or tomorrow. And to keep calm about all that is to be done today. If anyone has any suggestions for me, let me know! |

Not projecting into the future is a huge challenge, and one that I fail daily, many times! Benedict has so much to say on stability that is valuable. One of the joys of this spiritual journey is that we are not asked to be perfect and aspiring to perfection is a great undoing. In my better moments, I can see my failings (and that word is so value-laden, but I can't think of an alternative) in hindsight with some humour. For me the great joy is that we are given the grace to start afresh each day, no questions asked! What helps me is belonging to community of people who are on a similar journey. I am from an Anglican background but find great strength from people of all faiths. My catholic brothers and sisters give me huge support. I keep a quotation firmly fixed above my computer at work: it is from Carol Bonomo's excellent book The Abbey Up the Hill which I read on retreat this year. The diary entry is from August 5, 2000 and relates to a prayer she made up. After a severe but funny self assessment, she concludes by asking, ....."so what is the next step?" Faith and a sense of humour are our allies. Would anyone else like to comment? |
